F260 Day 45: Leviticus 16-17

Leviticus 16-17

Leviticus 16 details the sacrifices required for the Day of Atonement. On this day, once a year, the high priest made atonement for his and the people’s sin. This is the one day of the year when he could enter the Most Holy place. The sacrifices made on this day covered Israel’s sin for the year.

Leviticus 17 then tells us about the forbidden sacrifices. In short, no one but the priests were to make sacrifices in Israel. God used this as a hedge of protection for the people. First, it kept them from offering sacrifices incorrectly. Second, it prevented them from making sacrifices to idols and false gods. While this might have been frustrating for some, this was a blessing from the Lord.

Do you respect the safeguards God has put in place in your life?
