F260 Day 178: Matthew 26:35-27:31

F260 Day 178: Matthew 26:35-27:31

Matthew 26:35-27:31

After Jesus finishes his prayer at Gethsemane, he is confronted by Judas and a mob. He is arrested, taken to the high priest, and put on trial. Intent on killing him, the chief priests take Jesus to Pilate for execution. Pilate wants nothing to do with him, but gives way to the people’s request to keep a riot from breaking out. He ultimately sentences Jesus to be crucified. In the midst of all this, we see Peter’s denial of knowing Jesus.

The one thing that stands out in this passage is the repeated emphasis on things happening this way to fulfill Scripture. This is important because it shows us these events are not haphazard. Instead, God knew all along this is how things would happen. Jesus knew things had to happen this way, which he told his disciples beforehand. For us, it means we can trust God and know that he will keep & fulfill his word. And we can trust that Jesus is indeed the Messiah because of all the prophecies he fulfilled.

Do you understand the importance of Jesus fulfilling Old Testament prophecy?
